Our Guides

Justin Shroyer graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Environmental Biology and Ecology, and has been guiding the region since 2003. He loves stalking massive tailwater brown trout, and never ignores a good top water smallmouth bite. Not afraid to think outside the box, or float the unfloatable, Justin varies his methods and locations to consistently put his customers on top notch fishing. Justin founded TWGS in 2009, and currently resides year-round in Boone, NC with his wife and two kids.

Rhett Shroyer is the head guide for TWGS, and has been guiding with his brother since 2007.  While growing up, Rhett aspired to become a professional fisherman, and his loyal customer base shows he made the right decision. He is one of the most consistent guides around, putting his clients on quality wild fish trip after trip. Rhett can handle any guiding situation our region has to offer, providing anglers of all skill levels consistent success. He is on the water almost every day, whether he is working or not.

Chris Morris is one of the most established and versatile guides in the region. Chris has an intimate knowledge of the area’s small streams, plus has an innate ability to scout and locate big fish on our tailwaters. Chris is an all around outdoor enthusiast and environmentalist, having hiked the entire Appalachian trail and most of the region’s headwater streams. Chris brings an enthusiastic attitude to every guided trip, that is much appreciated by our clientele and staff. He has been with TWGS since the beginning, and has helped grow our guide service to what it is today.

Nick Shroyer has done it all for TWGS since joining the squad in 2014 including managing the fly shop, guiding, branding, SEO, and social media duties. Nick has a special knack for tracking down large migratory stripers and trout in seldom fished areas, and applying advanced tactics to catch these fish.   He is just as comfortable on a blackbass bite as he is targeting finicky S. Holston brown trout in gin clear water.  His trip booking and customer service skills keeps everyone busy, and the company running smoothly.

Korey Hartley has been a professional fly tier for several years, and TWGS was lucky enough to add him to their team in 2016 as a full time guide.   His precise tailwater flies are things of beauty, and his streamer patterns, the Stylin’ Shad and Ewoke, are proven big fish slayers.  His knowledge of fly-fishing Boone Lake for stripped bass, smallmouth, and trout has been a welcome addition to our guide staff.  Thankfully, Korey is as good with gear as he is on water, often handling fly tying, construction, and boat work duties for the company.
